Babies Need Bodywork Too!

Craniosacral Therapy is a gentle hands-on form of therapy that looks at alignment of joints, connective tissue (such a s fascia, ligaments, joint capsules, muscles) throughout the body as well as alignment of cranial bones. Did you know babies cranial bones overlap during the birth process?

Craniosacral Therapy can help your child reach important developmental milestones such as crawling, walking, talking. New research is beginning to show a connection between skipped developmental milestones and challenges later in life such as Dyslexia, Hyperactivity, Sensory, emotional, or coordination challenges. There can be many reasons a baby may not be crawling. It could be related to physical restrictions due to constricted intrauterine position (low amniotic fluid, twin births, uterine shape or lack of mothers movement during pregnancy), a prolonged birth process or birth interventions such as c-sections, use of forceps or vacuum extraction, or retained primitive reflexes (refer to Rachael Yakar at Summit Therapy Solutions for this).

To learn more about Developmental Milestones talk to your doctor, or look into the Wonderweeks app/book or click the link below.

For optimal physical health, use car seats for cars only, transfer your baby in and out of the car seat if you are spending prolonged time in a store, at an appointment, or going for a walk. Strollers that have flat baby bassinets or carriers are best (older models of the baby bjorn aren't ideal for hip development). Floor time activities such as these, laying on their backs, actively in tummytime or rolling from front to side to back on a safe, fall protected surface are wonderful activities for babies before they are walking.

During a Craniosacral session we also work with the babies nervous system. The birth process and life outside the womb can be a challenge for babies. Colicky, fussy, sleep resistant baby anyone?
